Split Testing Like Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde
To be honest talking about split testing is, about as exciting as watching the grass grow, but as boring as it is, it’s still a crucial step in optimizing your business.
In fact, I’ll go as far to say, that if you’re not testing everything about your business, then you’re literally throwing money down the drain!
Now, I’m not gonna get all excel spreadsheet nerd on you, and go into all the infinite statistical anomalies there are with multivariate testing, simply because I don’t want to…
I will how ever go over some of the main benefits there are, when you start incorporating A/B testing into your every day life!
1.) Conversions: Conversions, are really the golden ticket we’re all after in business. Whether it’s simply generating leads or making sales, conversions are what makes your business go round. Now how do you increase your conversions? with testing, testing, testing!
You can be like 99% of the other marketers out there who throw one landing page up and call it good, and accept whatever measly results you get….OR…
You can create another version of that same page, with one slight difference, rotate the two and see which one pulls more conversions! Then take the winning page, copy it, and create another page with another slight difference, etc… Now you keep rinsing and repeating this process all the time, always trying to beat your winning page.
And before you know it, you could go from a .05% conversion rate, to closing 5% of your traffic! And with a 5% conversion rate, you’re sittin real pretty in any market friend
2.) Profit: Now as good as conversion are, you still have to see which marketing campaign is making you the most doubloons. And how do we figure this little equation out? If you don’t know, then I’m going to slap you right in the face if and when I ever meet you…
Just because one campaign is pulling in more sales, doesn’t mean your making more money off that one. So you need to split test different campaigns and see which one is making you the most money!
This is extremely important in all forms of marketing whether it be PPC, SEO, Media Buys, Social Media, Email Marketing, etc… You need to split test new landing pages everyday! Different colors, fonts, layouts, etc… each traffic source will convert better to different style, but without testing, you’ll never find the winners from the losers.
So you see split testing is really boring to talk about, and that’s why I kept this post short. But so few people actually do any testing whatsoever, that they’re just shooting them selves in the foot. If you really want to take your business to the next level, and start making more money, then start testing right meow!
